Where to Start?

This year the Minnesota Viking's had a bad season, with as many secondary problems as they had losses and a crappier offensive line than a church's Yo Mama contest. There is no doubt that the Viking have too many holes to fix in one draft, but they can plug up a couple if they play their cards right. The first option that can be looked at is Robert Griffin the Third the constellation prize of the QB draft class. He shows great athleticism and his efficiency was off the charts with a sophomore average of 64.4 completion percentage. Though what I like the most 209 consecutive completions without an interception.

Now with the combined incompetence of Phil Loadholt, Anthony Herrera, John Sullivan, Joe Burger, and Charlie Johnson protecting Griffin, his athleticism would really be a help and his quick thinking and efficiency could make him a decent fit for the Vikings. Though I think the Vikings wouldn't throw Christian Ponder under the bus just yet, he was kind of put into the fire that Donovon McNabb created because of a quite poor early season performance. Finishing the season with 1,853 yards 13 Touchdowns and 13 Interception a 54.3 completion percentage and 6.37 yard per attempt. Now their not numbers that will jump out at you but than again when you have a second to make your reads, those numbers show a lot of potential. Which is why I think Robert Griffin won't be sporting the purple and gold.

Though someone who could look good in purple and gold is Matt Kalil which some are comparing to Jake Long. He's the best LT prospect the NFL has seen in a long time. His stats makes it extremely difficult not to consider him and he will force a lot of attention on his Pro day. He was a PAC-12 first team and an all American First Team by Walter Camp, he started 12 games at LT and blocked a Kick against Notre Dame. With the Charlie Johnson experiment blowing up in the Vikings face, it seems that's they're almost destined to take him. He would help out the line problems the Vikings have. It only makes it worse that there are slim chances, that Steve Hutchinson will be back, they need someone who can provide protection, someone that can give Ponder at least a couple seconds to make his reads. I'm not one to throw out vindication but Ponder got sacked more times than the opening credits of Monty Python.

Though his line wasn't the only problem, his lack of options to throw the ball to also stalled the offense. Percy Harvin is great don't get me wrong, but when it comes to Bill Musgrave's offense, he's really only a secondary receiver. Ponder needs a Wide Receiver who he can look at as a sure fire down the field guy and Justin Blackmon can do that for the Vikings. He's got great athleticism, height and along with that a physical nature with great hands. He's been compared to Calvin Johnson except without the blinding speed, but hey half of Calvin Johnson is nothing shabby. With him along side Percy Harvin that's a combination that will have defense coordinators Popping Advil like Tic Tac's .

Funny enough Balckmon isn't the only one who going to be jumping, his stats jump out at you as well. In 2011 he had 121 receptions along with 1552 yards showing he can bring in the pig skin, he can also get to the end zone with 38 Touchdowns in his last two years. With a Ponder and Blackmon tandem, that could.... wreak havoc. There's plenty more options that the Vikings could explore, Morris Claiborne the shut down corner from LSU, Riley Reiff the LT beast from Iowa. but the three I elaborated on above will defiantly leave a impact on the Vikings. So let's hope Leslie Fraiser and Company makes the best pick possible.
